London Theatres: The Open Air Regent's Park Theatre

Even with all of the theatres in the London area there are not too many outdoor London theatres. There is one open air theatre that is especially popular. This is the Open Air Regent's Park Theatre. This is one of the longest running theatres in London, and it is host to some of the most popular productions in London.

The Open Air Regent's Park Theatre is located in the City of Westminster borough of London. It was formed in 1932 as an outdoor venue that would entertain people during the summer months. The theatre is generally open for about three or four months each year, usually from May to September.

The theatre is owned by the New Shakespeare Company. There are all sorts of different Shakespeare plays that are held here every year as a result. In fact, two different Shakespeare works are held every year at this theatre.

There are four different productions held every year. A production of A Midsummer's Night Dream, the legendary Shakespeare comedy, is held every year. There is also another Shakespeare production in the season, followed by an annual musical production and a children's production.

On Sundays the theatre will also hold some concerts and comedy shows. Details on who will be at these shows can be found on the theatre's website at openairtheatre.org.

One of the best things about this theatre is that it has a bar that is unique among outdoor London theatres. The bar covers almost the entire length of the seating area. It features a barbecue and a picnic area. Meals are served before the program begins and are served again during the intermission.

Like with other outdoor London theatres there is a rainout policy. The Meteorological Office is contacted in the event of inclement weather to determine what the forecast is going to be in the immediate future in the event of any rainfalls. If a show is delayed by forty five minutes then the show will generally be cancelled and refunds will be given to all people who attended the show. This is not always going to be the case for evening shows, but this rule is strictly enforced for matinee shows so that the evening shows will be able to start on time.

Tickets are available right now for events at the theatre. In the 2008 there will be performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night and Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Tickets can be booked at openairtheatre.org or by phone at 0844 826 4242.

The Open Air Regent's Park Theatre is one of the outdoor London theatres that is definitely a place to check out. Some of the greatest Shakespeare plays can be seen outdoors in a wonderful environment. It makes for a memorable experience.
